Fiat

The Fiat company was founded in Turin, Italy in 1899 by Giovanni Agnelli, an industrialist and entreprenur (Fiat is an acronym of Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino). The firm began by producing a range of cars and trucks, and it was not until 1919 that it produced its first tractor, the Fiat 702. This was a 25 hp four-cylinder machine that soon gained a reputation for high quality and reliability. The Fiat 702 was exported to many countries in Europe, as well as the USA, Australia and South America. In 1924, the 702 was replaced by the 703, a slightly uprated machine that was distinguished by the large reduction hubs on the rear wheels. A new lightweight model, the 700, was introduced in 1926 - this was produced in various forms as late as 1950, and a crawler version, the 700C, was also available for a time. Fiat continued to go from strength to strength, and today forms a major part of the multinational Case-New Holland company.
